Easy Copycat Chick-Fil-A Sauce Recipe

If you’re obsessed with Chick-Fil-A, then you have to learn how to make their sauce at home.

Remember back in 2021 when the chain had a shortage? I certainly don’t want to experience that again.

And thanks to this recipe, none of us have to.

This homemade Chick-Fil-A sauce is the real deal! It’s creamy, tangy, smoky, and sweet.

It’s so good you’ll want to bathe in it.

The best part is, it’s embarrassingly easy to make – just four ingredients and five minutes!

Ready? Let’s get to it!

What Does Chick-Fil-A Sauce Taste Like?

Chick-Fil-A sauce tastes creamy, sweet, tangy, and smoky. Think honey mustard, but with a touch of sweetness and a smoky kick.

It’s got a lovely orange color and has been popular for decades. Recipes vary, but the key ingredients are mayonnaise (or Ranch), honey mustard, and BBQ sauce.

Depending on how you like it, you can use honey mustard or honey and mustard.

And you might like it better with the herby goodness of Ranch instead of plain old mayo.

Try all the combos to see what you like best.

Chick-Fil-A Sauce Ingredients: mustard, mayo, BBQ sauce, and honey

Ingredients

I love homemade Chick-Fil-A sauce because you can whip up a batch on the spot.

You’ll need the most basic condiments that you probably have on hand, and it’s ready to devour in seconds. Plus, you can easily tweak the recipe.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Mustard. The original sauce contains yellow, spicy brown, and honey mustard. But I only use Dijon to keep things simple. That said, feel free to use any combination of mustards you like.
  • Mayonnaise. Use real mayonnaise for the best results. Light mayo and Miracle Whip won’t give you the same flavor the OG sauce has. You can also substitute Ranch. I suggest trying both to see which you prefer.
  • BBQ Sauce. It doesn’t matter what brand – use your favorite! Avoid using overly sweet sauces, though, or it’ll overpower the other flavors. Similarly, you don’t want anything ‘flavored.’ I recommend Kansas City BBQ or Memphis-style BBQ.
  • Honey. Honey adds a touch of sweetness and a nice golden hue to your sauce. Feel free to adjust the amount. And if you use honey mustard, remember you’ll need a lot less.

How to Make Chick-Fil-A Sauce

1. Prepare the ingredients.

For this recipe, you’ll need mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, dijon mustard, and honey.

2. Whisk them together in a bowl.

Be sure they’re blended well.

3. Serve and enjoy!

How easy is that?

Expert Tips & Tricks

  • Stick to original BBQ sauce. This sauce already contains honey, and you don’t want to go overboard. So, use original BBQ as opposed to flavored or extra sweet sauces.
  • Make it smoky. For extra smokiness, add a drop of liquid smoke. A little goes a long way, and feel free to play around with flavors (like hickory or mesquite).
  • Give the sauce time to rest. Instead of serving it right away, let it chill in the fridge for an hour or two. Letting the sauce rest gives the flavors time to meld and will result in a better flavor.
  • K.I.S.S – Keep It Simple, Sweetheart! Prepare this sauce in whatever container you plan to store it in. That keeps things simple and makes cleanup a breeze. Who wants to do extra dishes, right?!
  • Make extra! Double the batch so you have lots of leftovers for other days. Trust me – you’ll want a steady supply of this sauce, and it keeps for up to a week in the fridge.

Recipe Variations

Feel free to make this sauce your own!

  • Spice it up. Go for spicy BBQ sauce or spicy brown mustard. Or add a pinch of black pepper or cayenne.
  • Buffalo sauce. Add a tablespoon of buffalo sauce.
  • Polynesian Chick-Fil-A sauce. Another popular sauce from the chain! Just add 1-2 tablespoons of sweet-and-sour sauce to the original recipe.
  • Make it healthier. Use Greek yogurt or sour cream instead of mayo.
